Mobile ICH – Bringing Hong Kong’s Intangible Cultural Heritage to the Community
The Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Mobile Centre, “Mobile ICH” is a unique mobile learning hub that will tour across Hong Kong from 2025 to 2027. Designed to bring cultural heritage directly into the community, Mobile ICH promotes awareness of Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage through interactive exhibitions, creative learning activities, and engaging cultural programmes.
We are invited to be the project’s visual identity designer and created the key visual illustration that serves as the central image for Mobile ICH. This illustration is featured widely, from the mobile truck exterior and exhibits inside the centre to the project website and promotional materials, making cultural heritage both accessible and visually engaging.
Showcasing Hong Kong’s Living Heritage
The key visual celebrates a variety of intangible cultural heritage items represented in Hong Kong, including:
Traditional Chinese Almanac
Lantern Lighting Ritual
Yu Lan Festival
Basin Meal
Sewing Technique of Traditional Chinese Cheongsam in Hong Kong
Flower-lantern Paper Crafting Technique
Lantern Band Embroidery Technique
Qilin Dance
Chiu Chow Food Making Technique
Engor (Dance of Heroes)
Chiu Chow Music
Spring and Autumn Ancestral Worship of Lineage
Wai Tau Dialect
These elements are thoughtfully woven into the illustration to create a vibrant visual story that mirrors the spirit of the project: connecting tradition with the present through design, learning and community participation.
Learning Through Fun and Interaction
Highlighting festive events, traditional customs, and everyday cultural practices, Mobile ICH introduces visitors to a wide range of heritage elements — including music, languages, performing arts, craftsmanship, rituals and knowledge of nature and the universe.
The mobile centre is equipped with engaging features such as the ICH Stage, ICH Workshop, and ICH Talk, creating immersive learning experiences for all ages. As part of its outreach, Mobile ICH will also tour local schools, offering students fun and interactive ways to explore intangible cultural heritage. To support long-term cultural education, a teaching and learning kit has been developed for teachers to integrate ICH topics into the classroom.
Organised by the Hong Kong Resource Centre for Heritage (HKRCH) and supported by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Funding Scheme, this project promotes cultural sustainability, education and appreciation of Hong Kong’s living heritage.

From Illustration to Interaction: Traditional Chinese Almanac Activity
Among the featured elements, the Traditional Chinese Almanac takes on a special role. Inspired by the classic almanac book cover, we transformed this graphic into a public activity for all visitors — the DIY Stamping Postcard.
The design is divided into three distinct stamp layers, each in a different colour, echoing the traditional tones of the almanac. Visitors can combine these layers to create their own personalised postcard, turning cultural appreciation into a hands-on, creative experience that connects the past with the present.
