2024 | Diversity Knowledge Booklet Design | The University of Hong Kong & Diversity at Schools Project
Educational Illustration & Layout Design for Learning Diversity
We were invited by The University of Hong Kong’s Education Project Team to design book covers, key illustrations and interior layout for a set of three knowledge booklets developed under the Jockey Club “Diversity at Schools” Project. These educational booklets offer practical learning guides for parents and teachers, aiming to support inclusive education across Hong Kong schools.
The booklets are distributed to schools, educators and families as part of a wider effort to promote diversity growth, so that each student can learn in an active and meaningful way. Supported by Jockey Club, the project “Diversity at School” aims to establish a support mode of instructors’ self-directed learning to enhance the capacity of schools to cater for students’ learning diversity.
The booklet series includes:
Knowledge Booklet 1 (A5): Tips on Diversity Learning for Parents
Knowledge Booklet 2 (A5): Tips on Diversity Management for Teachers
Knowledge Booklet 3 (A4): Diversity Management - Showcases and Beneficiary Stories
Each booklet addresses a different audience segment while working together as a complete set to support inclusive education practices.
We developed a flexible graphic system of custom illustrations that appear across all three booklets—adapted for cover design and featured internally on chapter sub-cover pages. The design uses abstract shapes to symbolize the diversity of students, representing a range of thoughts, personalities, interests, and learning styles.
To visually distinguish each booklet while maintaining a cohesive identity, we introduced a three-color scheme:
Orange – vibrant and friendly, used for the parents’ guide
Green – resourceful and supportive, used for the teachers’ guide
Blue – professional and calm, used for the case study booklet
The result is a set of educational materials that are approachable, visually unified, and audience-specific, reinforcing the project’s mission of meaningful, student-centred learning.
